The Indian Republic Day which is observed on January 26 every year, is a celebration of its democracy. The grand parade which is organized in the heart of its capital, New Delhi also showcases its cultural and traditional flavours. The Republic Day parade shows the military might of the country where different battalions and troops march down the Kartavya Path, as fully decorated contingents. It is definitely a sight to behold. However, another very attractive feature of the parade is the various artistically designed tableaux that depict various regional and social cultures of the diverse country.
This year also, the tableaus would hue to the vibrant colours of the eagerly awaited parade. Here are some glimpses:
Witnessing the vastness of the culture through tableaux
According to the Indian Ministry of Defense, 17 states and union territories of Indian including Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir will display their tableaux on this year’s Republic Day parade. Apart from that various ministries and departments will also display their creations, and a total of twenty-three tableaux will take part.
The Indian Defense Ministry released an official release that read, “Several rounds of interactions by the committee members with representatives of the States on the theme, presentation, aesthetics and technical elements of the tableaux were done as part of the selection process”.
“Six tableaux from the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Home Affairs (Central Armed Police Forces), Ministry of Home Affairs (Narcotics Control Bureau), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Central Public Works Department), Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (Indian Council Agriculture Research) will also be on display, showcasing the works and achievements in the last few years,” it added.
An age-old tradition that lives on
The idea of presenting the tableaux is associated with the Indian Republic Day parade, ever since it was first observed. It is a colourful and lively depiction of the vast country’s rich heritage and vibrant shades. The artists participating in this year’s parade are braving the cold weather and are practicing with high spirits in the capital city of New Delhi. It is expected to be a spectacular event like it has always been.
