Fresh inquiry in Toshakhana case against former Pak PM Imran Khan and his wife

ANM Desk

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has kicked off a new investigation into the Toshakhana case, summoning the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi. NAB Rawalpindi issued the call-up notices, instructing the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail to ensure their presence for the inquiry.

Multiple Legal Battles for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have been embroiled in a series of legal battles. An Accountability Court (AC) previously handed them each a 14-year prison sentence in the Toshakhana case. This resulted in disqualifying them from holding public office for a decade and imposing a hefty fine of PKR 787 million. Additionally, Khan and his Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi faced a 10-year imprisonment under the Official Secrets Act in connection with the cypher case. Moreover, Dawn reported that the couple received a seven-year jail sentence each for a case related to their marriage during Bibi’s Iddat period.

The Toshakhana case revolves around allegations that Khan unlawfully sold state gifts for personal gain. While officials can retain gifts received through Toshakhana, they cannot sell them for profit. The Election Commission of Pakistan filed a petition against Khan, accusing him of corrupt practices.

In a twist of events, the Islamabad High Court intervened, suspending the 14-year jail term imposed on Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case. The high court further ordered their release from prison.

Despite the legal rollercoaster, the latest development sees NAB reigniting the investigation into the Toshakhana case. This indicates ongoing scrutiny into the alleged misconduct by the former prime minister and his wife. As the saga unfolds, stakeholders closely monitor the legal proceedings, awaiting further updates on the fate of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
