Leading food delivery apps Zomato and Swiggy increase platform fees by Rs 10.
In the midst of the festive season, popular food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy have raised their platform fees in certain cities, including the national capital.
Both companies are now charging Rs 10 as a platform fee, a move expected to impact customers as the demand for online food orders rises.
In a regulatory filing, Zomato clarified its decision to increase the platform fee to Rs 10 in select cities. The company stated, “We have indeed increased the platform fee yesterday (Wednesday) across certain cities.”
The hike, labeled as a “festive season platform fee,” is currently being applied in the national capital, though Zomato did not disclose in which other cities the fee increase has been implemented or the exact extent of the change.
Routine Business Matter
Zomato emphasized that such changes are part of routine business operations. “Such changes in our platform fee are a routine business matter and are done from time to time and may vary from city to city,” the company said.
The festive season sees a surge in online food orders, and this fee hike may be a response to the increased operational demands during this time.
Swiggy’s Response Unavailable
Similarly, Swiggy has also introduced an increase in its platform fee, though the company has not provided any official comments or details regarding the change. Despite queries, Swiggy has remained silent on the matter.
Both platforms are now facing customer scrutiny as the festive season typically brings more orders and heightened expectations for timely delivery at affordable rates.
