New memory feature enhances personalized experience by saving user-specific information.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature for its Meta AI chatbot on Android devices that will revolutionize how users interact with artificial intelligence.

Dubbed “chat memory,” this feature will allow the AI to remember specific user information, delivering more personalized responses.

The chat memory feature will enable users to ask Meta AI to save personal details such as dietary preferences, profession, and even birthdays.

Once saved, Meta AI will customize its responses accordingly, allowing for tailored interactions. For example, if a vegan user requests food suggestions, the chatbot will only recommend vegan options.

This unique feature is expected to make the AI more user-centric and responsive to individual needs.

How the Feature Works

According to WABetaInfo, the memory option will be integrated into the profile page of Meta AI. Users can access it through the chat interface by tapping the Meta AI title.

From there, they will be able to see what the AI remembers about them. Once information is saved, it will appear in this section, allowing users to view or edit details as needed.

Privacy and Availability Concerns

While the feature promises convenience, its privacy implications remain unclear, as WhatsApp has yet to disclose specifics.

Notably, a similar feature is available on OpenAI’s ChatGPT, where users can choose which information is stored.

OpenAI assures that saved data is not used for training large language models. Currently, the memory feature in WhatsApp is in development and has only been spotted in the beta version 2.24.22.9 for Android. However, it is not yet available for testing.

What’s Next for Meta AI

The memory feature is expected to significantly enhance the user experience, providing more relevant and personalized interactions. However, users signed up for WhatsApp’s Google Beta Programme will have to wait for its official release.
