Boosting sustainable mobility, Tata and RSA focus on solar-powered EV charging in Rajasthan.
In a bid to promote sustainable energy solutions, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA).
The partnership aims to integrate solar energy into the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Rajasthan, encouraging a zero-emission future.
Government Push Towards Solar Energy
The Indian government has been actively advocating for solar energy adoption through initiatives like the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana.
This program has led to over 400,000 solar installations across the country.
By harnessing solar energy, India aims to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, encouraging a cleaner, more cost-effective approach to mobility and energy consumption.
Rajasthan’s Role in Solar and EV Growth
Rajasthan stands as a key player in India’s solar journey, boasting the second-highest solar installation capacity nationwide.
Known for its abundance of sunlight, Rajasthan has the natural resources needed to support large-scale solar adoption.
Jaipur, the capital, is emerging as a frontrunner in EV adoption rates, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a sustainable future.
Tata’s Vision for Solar-Powered EVs
Under the MoU, TPEM and RSA will promote the benefits of combining EVs with solar energy, aiming to cut carbon emissions.
Customers who choose Tata EVs and install solar panels at home or work will receive additional discounts, making this an attractive option for those aiming to reduce their environmental footprint.
“Zero-Cost Mobility” Through Solar EV Charging
Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at TPEM, highlighted the synergy between solar power and EVs. According to Rajan, over 90% of EV owners charge at home, and around 30% utilize rooftop solar systems.
“By combining EVs with solar power, owners can eliminate fuel costs and enjoy zero-cost mobility. This MoU marks a significant step in expanding solar adoption and EV sales,” he stated.
This collaboration between TPEM and RSA underscores a shared commitment to sustainable energy and affordable, clean mobility.
