Republic Day Parade 2023: India’s grand show of democracy, military might, and culture

Republic Day parade: The 74th Republic Day was celebrated in India at the capital New Delhi’s Kartavya Path, like every year. The morning of January 26 is the time when India showcases to the world its firm democratic inclination, its strong military, and defense mechanism and a peek into its glorious cultural heritage. The program was held with great fervor and patriotic spirit that was visible from the faces of thousands of spectators, who bore not only the cold weather, but several layers of high-security covers, to reach the stands at the parade venue.

Like every year, the special attraction of the Republic Day parade was the colorful and creative tableaux that depict the diverse ethnic shades of the nation. Interestingly, the Indian constitution is the longest written in the world and the grand affair is dedicated to the firm belief in democracy and the constitutional rights of the citizens.

The breathtaking view of the tableaux

This year, the organization of the tableaux was themed around women’s empowerment and the states and boards that participated did present a spectacular show. Indian state governments of Assam, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and others, presented their individual cultural flavor, amalgamating them with the empowerment of women. The display of these tableaux has been an annual tradition since the celebration of the first republic day in 1950.

Chief Guest for the occasion

This year, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi was invited as the chief guest for the occasion of the celebration of Republic Day. This tradition is also followed since the very first republic day celebration and a head of a state or government is invited. The selection of the guest is anonymous with India’s deliberation of strategic, political, and economic interests at the time. It is pertinent to mention in 1968 and 1974, India hosted two countries in the same Republic Day program.

The Republic Day parade is a one-of-its-kind program, organized by a state or a country in the world, that shows so many vibrant colors and cultural inclinations. It is looked forward by millions of Indian around the world, who stick to their tv sets, even before the commencement of the parade, to not miss any moment of the spectacle.
