Israel Encourages Citizens to Visit Indian Beaches After Maldives Bans Israeli Passports

In response to the Maldives’ recent ban on the entry of individuals holding Israeli passports, the Israel Embassy in India has issued a recommendation for Israeli tourists to explore India’s beautiful coastal destinations.

Highlighting the warmth and hospitality of Indian tourism, the embassy suggested several picturesque locations across the country, emphasizing India’s readiness to welcome Israeli visitors.

Maldives’ Ban on Israeli Passports

The Maldives’ government announced a ban on the entry of Israeli passport holders, a decision revealed by Maldives Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsaan, during a news conference at the President’s Office on Sunday.

The official statement from the President’s Office confirmed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had resolved to impose the ban following a recommendation from the Cabinet. This decision includes amending necessary laws to prevent Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives and establishing a Cabinet subcommittee to oversee these efforts.

In addition to the ban, President Muizzu has decided to appoint a special envoy to assess the needs of Palestinians and initiate a fundraising campaign to provide assistance to the people of Palestine through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

This move comes amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which erupted on October 7 when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, resulting in civilian casualties and hostages. Israel has since vowed to destroy Hamas, leading to a continuing conflict.

Israel Promotes Indian Beaches to Tourists

In light of the Maldives’ decision, the Israel Embassy in India has actively promoted Indian beaches as an alternative destination for Israeli tourists.

The embassy’s post on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted several Indian coastal regions known for their stunning beauty and exceptional hospitality, such as Goa, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Kerala. Accompanying the post were images of these locations, showcasing their allure.

The embassy’s statement reads: “Since the Maldives is no longer welcoming Israelis, here are some beautiful and amazing Indian beaches where Israeli tourists are warmly welcomed and treated with utmost hospitality. Check out these recommendations from @IsraelinIndia, based on the places visited by our diplomats.”

Kobbi Shoshani, the Israeli Consul General in Mumbai, also responded to a previous post by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where PM Modi praised the natural beauty of Lakshadweep.

Shoshani’s post on X expressed gratitude towards the Maldives’ decision, suggesting that Israelis could now explore the breathtaking beaches of Lakshadweep.

Ongoing Conflict and International Responses

The Maldives’ decision comes in the wake of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which began with a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7.

The attack involved terrorists entering Israel, attacking civilian communities, and taking hostages. In response, Israel has committed to dismantling Hamas, resulting in continuous military operations in Gaza.

The international community has been closely monitoring the situation, with various nations calling for a ceasefire and negotiations.

On Friday, US President Joe Biden announced that Israel had proposed a “comprehensive new proposal” aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the conflict.

According to CNN, the proposal, transmitted by Qatar to Hamas, outlines a roadmap towards a ceasefire, starting with a six-week period of complete ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza.

This initial phase also involves the release of hostages, including women, the elderly, and the wounded, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

As the conflict continues, the Maldives’ stance reflects its solidarity with the Palestinian cause, while Israel’s diplomatic efforts focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, encouraging them to explore alternative travel destinations like the welcoming beaches of India.
