Ind vs NZ T20: The favorite sports game of India, cricket is set to keep fans involved, yet again from Friday. India is all set to play New Zealand in a three-match T20 series that begins on January 27. However, there’s a not so pleasant news for the Indian fans shared by the news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), as the opening batter, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the series due to a wrist injury. The 25 year old player has been shifted to National Cricket Academy, for further treatment and rehabilitation, although an official statement regarding the development is still awaited from the Board of Controls for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Ruturaj last played in Ranji
Ruturaj played the last Ranji Trophy match for Maharashtra against Hyderabad. He scored 8 runs in the first innings and 0 in the second. According to PTI, he had informed BCCI about an injury in the wrist, after that match.
History of injuries
Incidentally, it is the second time Ruturaj has been troubled by an injury. Last year, while playing in a T20 series against Sri Lanka, he had been ruled out of the series and he could not play. Earlier, he tested positive for covid and could not play the One Day International (ODI) series against West Indies, held in India.
According to media reports, the team management and BCCI are not very amused by the development and the fact that Ruturaj is impacted by injuries, time and again. While Prithvi Shaw has made it back to the T20 team this time, it is still not clear who would replace Ruturaj in the upcoming India – New Zealand series.
