Islamabad Police have arrested former Prime Minister of Pakistan Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, in connection with a family property dispute.
After his arrest, Ilyas was taken to Margalla Police Station. The Capital Police have confirmed the detention of the former prime minister.
Charges and Allegations
Sources reveal that Ilyas was arrested on charges of allegedly seizing family property and involvement in a shooting incident. The dispute centers around the Centaurus Mall, a significant commercial complex.
On May 1, a case was registered against Ilyas for attempting to take control of the central offices and important documents of the mall.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by Colonel (retd) Tipu Sultan, Deputy Security In-charge of The Centaurus Mall.
The FIR names Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, along with Muhammad Ali, Anil Sultan, Rizwan, and other unidentified individuals as accused parties. According to the FIR, Ilyas, accompanied by an armed group of 20 to 25 individuals, forcibly entered office 1708 of Centaurus Mall by breaking the lock. Their intent, as stated in the report, was to seize control of the premises.
However, their attempt was thwarted by the mall’s security guards. During the confrontation, Ilyas allegedly threatened to kill Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan and Sardar Dr. Rashid Ilyas Khan, among others.
The FIR also mentions that Ilyas’s group physically assaulted the security officer. When law enforcement officials arrived at the scene, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas allegedly fired at Colonel (retd) Tipu Sultan, narrowly missing him.
Supporters Rally and Legal Proceedings Begin
Following the arrest, a significant number of lawyers and supporters of Ilyas gathered outside Margalla Police Station. Additionally, party workers began assembling outside his residence, expressing their support and demanding his release.
The presence of such a crowd indicates the high-profile nature of the case and the significant public interest it has generated.
Legal experts suggest that the case will likely be complex due to the involvement of high-profile individuals and the serious nature of the allegations. The alleged shooting incident adds a layer of criminal charges that could lead to severe consequences if proven true.
The involvement of a former prime minister in such a case highlights the often intricate and contentious nature of family and property disputes, especially when large commercial interests are at stake.
In response to the arrest, Ilyas’s legal team has announced plans to challenge the allegations in court. They claim that the charges are baseless and politically motivated. Ilyas’s lawyers argue that their client was acting within his rights and that the incident has been misrepresented.
They plan to file for bail and seek to have the charges dismissed.
Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their investigation. The police are gathering evidence and taking statements from witnesses to build their case.
They aim to ensure that justice is served, regardless of the high-profile nature of the accused.
The arrest of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan marks a significant development in the ongoing dispute over Centaurus Mall. As the case progresses, it will likely attract further media attention and public scrutiny.
The outcome could have far-reaching implications for all parties involved, particularly regarding the ownership and control of the contested property.
