BRICS Plus Nations to Lead Global Economic Reform, Xi Jinping

The Chinese President calls for peace, security, and development at BRICS Plus summit.

At the BRICS Outreach meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed the collective rise of the Global South as unprecedented in world history and human civilization.

In his address, he emphasized the need for BRICS Plus countries to uphold global peace and security, urging them to act as stabilizing forces in a world marked by increasing volatility.

Xi called for a cooperative approach to address both the symptoms and root causes of conflicts, stressing the importance of global security governance.

Global South’s Role in Economic Development

Xi Jinping highlighted the critical role of the Global South in driving global development.

He urged the BRICS Plus nations to spearhead reforms in global economic governance, advocating for the inclusion of development as a priority in international trade and economic discussions.

Xi noted that these countries should become leaders in global economic reform while ensuring development remains central to their agendas.

Cultural Exchange and Cooperation

In addition to economic reform, Xi stressed the importance of cross-cultural exchanges.

He encouraged BRICS Plus nations to enhance dialogue and cooperation while supporting one another’s paths to modernization, respecting their unique national conditions.

To further these goals, China will collaborate to establish a Global South Think Tanks Alliance, promoting people-to-people exchanges and shared governance experiences.

Commitment to the Global South

Xi reaffirmed China’s unwavering commitment to the Global South, stating that regardless of changes in the international landscape, China will always maintain close ties with these countries.

The meeting, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, was attended by nearly 40 nations, including leaders from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, alongside UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
