Amazon Prime Video will soon feature ads, changing the viewing experience for subscribers.
Amazon Prime Video has announced that it will introduce advertisements to subscribers in India beginning in 2025.
This significant change comes as part of the company’s strategy to enhance its streaming services.
While Prime Video has previously tested ads in countries like Australia, Canada, and the US, Indian users will now experience this shift in their viewing habits.
Limited Ads for Subscribers
According to Amazon’s recent update, the advertisements on Prime Video will be “limited” and aim to help the platform invest further in its content offerings.
The company emphasized that it intends to show “meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming providers,” a move designed to enhance user experience while still generating revenue.
This new advertising model is expected to benefit the overall content quality and variety available on Prime Video.
Subscription Options and Pricing
In response to potential subscriber concerns, Amazon will introduce a more expensive ad-free subscription option for those who wish to avoid advertisements.
Currently, users can opt for the Prime Lite subscription, which already includes ads but offers content at a lower resolution of 720p.
The standard annual Amazon Prime membership, priced at Rs. 1,499, will remain unchanged in 2025. However, the company will soon reveal the pricing details for the new ad-free option.
Advance Notification for Subscribers
While the exact date for the ad rollout in India has yet to be disclosed, Amazon has assured its Prime members that they will receive advance notice “several weeks” prior to the introduction of ads, including information on how to subscribe to the new ad-free plan.
This change will primarily affect Amazon Prime members, while those subscribed to Prime Lite will continue to see ads as per their current plan.
