India rises as a key player in Generative AI, ranking second globally behind the U.S.

India is swiftly becoming a global leader in the use of Generative AI (GenAI) platforms, standing just behind the United States.

A recent report titled ‘Gen AI in Consumer Applications’ by SimilarWeb highlights India’s prominent role in AI, particularly in content editing and productivity tools, with a substantial share in AI-driven applications.

The report reveals that Indian users contribute to 12% of global AI usage in content editing. Generative AI, which creates new content such as text or images by learning from data, has been especially popular for this purpose in India.

This places the country among the most active players in using AI to enhance written and visual content, signifying India’s growing reliance on AI-driven creativity.

Rising Use of AI in Productivity and Education

Besides content editing, India ranks third globally in adopting AI tools for productivity and education. More than 10% of global users from India are engaging with AI solutions to improve efficiency and enhance learning experiences.

This surge shows Indian users leveraging AI’s potential to optimize daily tasks, reinforcing the nation’s status as a significant AI consumer.

Room for Growth in Companion Apps and Commerce

However, India lags behind in AI-powered companion apps, which assist with personal tasks such as scheduling or providing recommendations.

Despite this, the report suggests potential growth in this area, especially through localized AI solutions tailored to Indian languages and preferences.

Additionally, AI is gaining traction in travel and commerce, with expectations of further growth as users explore new applications beyond content and education.

India’s burgeoning AI adoption highlights both success and untapped opportunities across sectors.
