The Conflict: Sri Lankan War Crimes

In Sri Lanka civil war, which lasted for over three decades humanity became the first causality. More than 100, 000 people were killed, over 20,000 people went missing and 45,000 army personnel lost their lives. The alleged war crimes committed during the last few months by Sri Lankan army to defeat the Tamil Tigers to put an end to civil war has been hotly debated.
War crimes are prohibited by the Geneva Conventions, of which Sri Lanka is a signatory. UN wants Sri Lanka to investigate war crimes and punish the guilty.
